Prepare for an unforgettable summer thrill! Join us on an expedition in the Santa Barbara Channel, where we’ll track magnificent whales and soak up the sun for an adventure of a lifetime!
Island Packers’ Gray Whale Watching departs from both the Channel Islands and Ventura Harbors. This cruise takes you to the Southern California waters of the Santa Barbara Channel.
Our captains have many years of experience sighting whales on the waters of the Santa Barbara Channel and will narrate and inform you about all the varieties or marine mammals seen on your cruise.
These waters are known for their marine mammal diversity and you may get to see other species of marine mammals along with the migrating Gray Whales. Seals, Sea Lions and several species of Dolphins along with occasional Orca Whale pods may also be seen on your trip.
The Whale Heritage Area (WHA) program is an initiative created by World Cetacean Alliance and World Animal Protection to formally recognize and accredit destinations around the world that support and demonstrate responsible and sustainable whale and dolphin watching tourism.
Island Packers is very proud to be one of over 30 supporting local organizations; whale watching companies, museums, environmental NGOs, research institutes and federal agencies working together to promote sustainable practices to ensure the conservation of the natural beauty of the Santa Barbara Channel. This designation highlights the region’s commitment to promoting responsible ecotourism, providing more ocean educational opportunities, supporting on-going research and conservation efforts, and honoring the timeless cultural connection we have to cetaceans (whales, dolphins, and porpoises).
The Santa Barbara Channel Whale Heritage Area is the perfect location where whales are celebrated for their ecological role in enhancing ocean productivity; where whales have an economic value through responsible tourism; where conservation and research is a priority in reducing their longevity and where we can continue to learn and appreciate the rich complex lives of cetaceans.
