Partial Campground Closure at Santa Cruz Island due to Hazard Tree
Ventura, CA — The Upper Scorpion Campground on Santa Cruz Island is closed until further notice as a result of a fallen eucalyptus tree that is obstructing safe access to this portion of the island. The Lower Scorpion Campground and restrooms are open and accessible to visitors.
The park is exploring the possibility of utilizing recreation fee funds to address the issue and restore access to this portion of the island.
Additionally, this closure due to the hazard tree will restrict access for visitors to the Scorpion Canyon Loop Trail and the Upper Scorpion Canyon Trail to Potato Harbor. Potato Harbor will still be accessible via the Cavern Point Trail.
- Park visitors are advised to use caution during their visit as NPS personnel are limited during the lapse in appropriations.
- There will be no campground check-in/check-out services and visitors holding campground reservations should be aware that there is no guarantee their reserved campsite will be ready and available.
- During the lapse in appropriations, NPS social media and websites are not being monitored or updated and may not reflect current conditions.
- All park programs have been canceled until further notice, including guided walks and education programs.
